DEFINITION of HOME?
This is honestly an open-ended question for many people and there’s always a different answer for it? People have different opinions and beliefs to question like…
“Oh, the people in that home.” Or they could say something like the decor of the inside or the outside of it. The internet says a what makes a house a home is a fact that it is a reflection of one’s character, a refuge for some people where they know they’re safe and secure. To be able to be themselves in the comfort of others they know they can trust, and that’s something people don’t always realize. Honestly, I can’t just give one answer to this question because, as I said, it’s an open-ended question that many people have different opinions on. But I’d like to ask whoever is reading this the same question. What is home to you? Is it the people in it? Or is it the memories that are stored in it that nobody can take away from you and your family? A little backstory on my home, I moved there in 06’ I was about 3 years old and my brother about 5 when we moved there, not knowing anything about anyone and really not knowing anyone for that matter. The first friends I made were my next-door neighbor Jamie, who lived with her mother as well as Zoey and her family. They lived across the street from us and lived with their parents, plus had about 2 dogs. I would go over to either one of their houses after school on a daily basis. Summers were filled with laughter as well as sweet memories. Inseparable to a fault, you didn’t see one without the other. However, as time went on and I was introduced to more and more people living in the neighborhood, I noticed that people I’ve known since childhood had ended up separating and leaving. Some parents got divorced and others just moved away. Why I’ll never know and honestly, I don’t think I ever wanted to know. I just wanted nothing to change and for everyone to stay. But alas, I realized something over the years: a home might be where the heart is, but you can’t always rely on someone to be that home. Life goes on, and no matter where you go, you create a new home for yourself and your family. It’s up to you to decide who or where home truly is and how to make sure you know how to make it feel like a home. It’s 2022 now and honestly my definition of ‘home’ has grown. Me personally, I have many opinions on it, not just one, and I hope that whoever is reading this takes the time to self-reflect on this. Thank you…
